Introduction to THE REACH OF CHILDREN

Michael has provided the introduction to Tim Lebbon’s novella THE REACH OF CHILDREN, out now from Humdrumming Press... Unfortunately the publisher has gone out of business, so you’ll need to explore other avenues if you’d like to read this excellent novella...

Upcoming Publications

There’s a lot of new editions - and a new novel - coming over the next few months, and so the New and Forthcoming page has been updated with dates for...

The US paperback of
THE INTRUDERS
The UK paperback of
THE SERVANTS
The UK and US hardcovers of the new novel,
BAD THINGS...

And there are covers for most of these now up in the
cover gallery. We’ve also added the cover of the second issue of the comic adaptation of THE STRAW MEN.

Full bibliography updated

We’ve updated the full bibliography with a few things, primarily a few new foreign language editions of BLOOD OF ANGELS.

Nicholas Royle's THE APPETITE

Michael has provided the introduction for Nicholas Royle’s excellent novella THE APPETITE, out now from Grey Friar Press.

Harper US microsites

Just to let you know that Michael’s US publishers - William Morrow, a division of Harper US - are busy setting up microsites for their authors. Of course this official site will always be your main port of call for in-depth and up-to-the-minute information on Michael, but they do have a few bits and pieces there that might be worth checking out...

Michael has two sites, naturally:

Michael Marshall
Michael Marshall Smith

Links to these have also been added to the
Links page in Resources.

US edition of THE SERVANTS

The William Morrow (Eos) edition of THE SERVANTS is out now.

Award Nominations

We’re delighted to announce that Michael has just received three award nominations:

THE INTRUDERS is nominated for the British Fantasy Award for Best Novel

THE SERVANTS is nominated for both the British and World Fantasy Awards, again for Best Novel... under the names M. M. Smith and Michael Marshall Smith respectively.

That’s two different books nominated under three different names, which may be some kind of record...

The Straw Men are here...

French MORE TOMORROW coming soon...

M-Marshall-Homme-Chat-sml
The end of this month will see the French publication of Michael's collection of short stories. Entitled L'HOMME QUI DESSINAIT DES CHATS ('The Man Who Drew Cats') to avoid conflict with a popular bande dessiné magazine, it's being published by Bragelonne, who previously bought out ONLY FORWARD in French.

Bragelonne will also be publishing THE SERVANTS, as part of their new mass market line, Milady. We'll announce publication dates for that when we know them...

Full bibliography tweaked...

In response to user feedback, we've changed the look of the full bibliography. Hopefully not only does it look better, but its default size should be easier on the eyes too.

Cover Gallery updated...

Courtesy of Mel - thanks, Mel! - we've added seven new or greatly improved covers scans to the gallery, including several Japanese editions...

Site Map added

The better to find what's here on the site and to hop back and forth between sections, we've added a site map, here.

UKSFBooks posts article on THE SERVANTS

Sandy Auden's article on the UK edition of THE SERVANTS, including a brief interview with Michael, is here.

Cover Gallery

new_badge
There's a new feature in the Books section of the site... a gallery of some of the covers of Michael's books in English language and other translations, along with a few pieces of ancillary material like proofs and the fabled SPARES postcards...

This is only a selection of all the different editions out there, and some of the scans are either small or not great. If you have better scans, or pictures of books that we don't have, then do please send them on so we can make the gallery as comprehensive as possible...

MMS on MSN

Just in case you missed it, here's a link to an interview with Michael on MSN from last year...

Minor Site Updates

Some minor updates have been made to the site, primarily updating the Biography section.

New forum up and running

We're delighted to announce that the new and spiffy forum is now online - and ready for re-registering. You'll need to update your bookmarks, as it has a different url to before.

UK edition of THE SERVANTS published...

The first of April is the official publication date of the HarperCollins edition of THE SERVANTS.

To order it from Amazon UK - where it seems to be falling foul of a weird search engine issue preventing it from appearing as a result of searches - click
here.

Full bibliography updated

The full bibliography has been updated with the ISBN for the upcoming UK edition of THE SERVANTS, and scant information for a Russian publication of THE LONELY DEAD.

[By the way, we're aware that links from the RSS feed don't work as expected, and are trying to find a fix. EDIT: seems to be fixed now...]

Further Site Update

The site's undergone another sprucing - mainly to make the Welcome page more useful. It now shows the most recent news items, allows direct access to the news archives and the tag cloud, features quick links to new and upcoming projects, and should hopefully now be the best way to enter the site and keep updated on new information. To check it out, go here.

Site Update

The site has been updated with the following:

1. THE SERVANTS has been added to the Michael Marshall Smith novels page. It has also been added as the first entry under a new M. M. Smith page, as that's the name under which it will be published in the UK in April. There are covers for both that edition and the upcoming American mass market edition, which is shown there despite the fact will be published in the US under Michael Marshall Smith, as these are both mass market publications. We hope that's sufficiently confusing.

2. A tag cloud has been added to the Breaking News page...

3. General sprucing up...

THE INTRUDERS nominated on the the ALA Reading List 2008

Established in 2007, the American Library Association's Reading List is put together by a Council of ten experts in readers' advisory and collection development, who select books in eight categories that they feel merit special attention by adult readers and the librarians who work with them.

We're delighted to report that THE INTRUDERS is one of only eighteen books published in 2007 to be nominated for the 'Adrenaline' list for suspense, thrillers and action adventure...

The Straw Men Are Coming Back... to Comics!

This just in from Zenescope Entertainment:

"Michael has teamed up with Zenescope Entertainment, the company behind the critically acclaimed graphic novel SE7EN (based off the film of the same name) to adapt Marshall’s best-seller, The Straw Men, into a comic book and graphic novel format.

"We are extremely excited to be working with Michael on this project, his book was one of the best and most thrilling reads I've had in a very long time and I always thought it would make for an incredible comic.” said Zenescope president Joe Brusha, “There are so many things we can do visually with this adaptation, I think fans of the novel are going to love what we have in store.” Zenescope is working very closely with Marshall on this adaptation in order to deliver a series that will stay true to his chilling story while also adding an incredible visual element to it.

Eisner award nominee Brett Weldele (Southland Tales: Prequel Saga; Silent Ghost) is providing artwork for the series with cover art by David Seidman (SE7EN)."

Look for The Straw Men to return this June - and keep an eye on the website in the meantime, as we hope to have some graphics tasters of the series very soon!
